George K. Baum & Company has identified renewable energy, specifically wind power projects, as a new market for tax-exempt financing. A team of individuals in the renewable energy industry, led by Lee White of George K. Baum & Company, has formed the Renewable Energy Finance Coalition (REFC). The goal of the Renewable Energy Finance Coalition is for Congress to change the tax code to allow privately owned wind projects to be financed with tax-exempt bonds. The coalition seeks all tax-exempt financing as a complement to the Production Tax Credit and CREBs, not as a replacement. Over the past few months, the REFC has worked to increase grassroots, state congressional, and gubernatorial support, and has received numerous positive indications for the proposal.
