From 1998 to 2002, George K. Baum & Company senior managed 160 Missouri
primary/secondary school bond issues with a total par amount exceeding $860 million.
This dollar volume earns our firm a number one national ranking as a senior manager
of Missouri school bonds, and demonstrates a strong working knowledge of the local market.
George K. Baum & Company demonstrates its commitment to Missouri education in several
ways. Perhaps most compelling is our unique relationship with the Missouri School Boards
Association. Among other things, we work closely with MSBA each year to administer the
Advance Funding Program. Our in-depth experience helping issuers achieve short-term
cash flow solutions through this program speaks to our strong understanding of the
operational side of school district finance. Our commitment is also evident in our
continual contribution of time and financial support to education statewide. We have
a well deserved reputation for attending all formal functions of and sponsoring events
for the MSBA, MASA, MoASBO and the American Association of School Administrators. In 1996,
when MSBA was rallying support to pass an amendment that would raise school district's
borrowing limits from 10% of assessed valuation to 15%, we contributed $10,000 toward
the Vote Yes campaign. Our contribution amounted to one-third of the total statewide
funding raised for the effort. We made a similar contribution toward 1998's Amendments
3 and 4 and also provided funds in support of recent efforts to lower the general obligation
voter requirement to a simple majority.
