Michael Short is a Senior Vice President at George K. Baum & Company in Kansas City, MO. Mr. Short has specialized knowledge in the structuring of local county government revenue bonds in the state of Missouri. He has been involved in financings for the City of Kansas City for many years, including the downtown redevelopment district, phase one street car financing, Kauffman Center Performing Arts Center parking structure and various sewer and water revenue bonds. Mr. Short served as lead banker on financings in Buchanan County, Butler County, Clay County, Cole County, Platte County, Greene County, and for the cities of Springfield, Missouri, Parkville, Missouri and Branson, Missouri in recent years. He has served as Financial Advisor to Buchanan County (Lifeline Foods IDRBs), Park University (Series 2017A&B refundings) and Mid-Continent Public Library District (ongoing).
Prior to Joining George K. Baum & Company, he was the Vice President and Director in the Ameritas (AIC) KC Public Finance Division. His work focuses on the firm’s government finance practice. Mr. Short served ten years as a Platte County Commissioner where he supervised a number of public building projects. In addition, he served six years on the Park Hill School District Board of Education, was Chairman of the Kansas-Missouri Metropolitan Cultural District Commission, served on the Kansas City Metropolitan Arts Council and the Board of Citizens Association. He currently serves as a Commissioner on the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority and the Board Feed Northland Kids, Inc.
He is a graduate of the University of Central Missouri and University of Missouri Kansas City Law School. Mr. Short holds Series 63, 50 and 7 licensures.
